Korg MicroKontrol
-cute king of my midi messages controling the others
Some midi controller is a must have for every producer. I choose that lovely Korg. It has a very
stylish design, 3 octave keyboard (37 note mini keyboard - nothing for piano players but ideal
keyboard for me) - there's of course an octave shift function covering full range of C1 to G9,
eight encoders, eight sliders, and sixteen trigger pads.
There are lovely LCDs above all the sliders resp. encoders plus one global one (It works in the dual mode!).
Everything is small but built like a tank as well. The microKontrol can send and receive data through the
standard MIDI I/O jacks on the back panel, as well as send MIDI Input data on two USB-only "soft" ports.
A third USB-only MIDI Out port is reserved for data dumps from the host computer to the microKontrol.
It can be easily USB powered (and I use it this way).
The sample pads are a great touch, and they are very responsive. The miniature keyboard took some
getting used to, but it is pretty cool to be able grab almost two octaves' worth of keys with one hand.
That's why I love small things.
