M-Audio Audiophile Firewire
-my ex-firewire audio & midi device
This audiophile comes in a elegant case and doesn't look so ugly as a USB version. The front panel is really
simple - just two buttons and two rotary controls (plus a headphone jack and some LEDs). The back side
consists of two unbalanced analogue inputs using RCA sockets, four analogue unbalanced outputs with
identical spec, co-axial RCA connectors for S/PDIF input and output, MIDI In and Out sockets, a power-supply
connector and two six-pin Firewire 1394 sockets. There are no mic preamps or associated phantom power
options.
I sold this interface because:
- I'm not a big fan of RCA sockets - with my current setup I was catching some hums and buzzes
- I really needed at least one mic preamp
- I needed more analog inputs
- I wanted a rack-mountable interface
- Mixer available only on computer is not a big deal. Anyway It wasn't an ideal solution
After all it was a good audio interface. Playing fine (especially compared to my sh*tty on-board soundcard).
MIDI worked great too. I can recommend it to anyone who just needs a cheap audio interface. To be honest
something I'm thinking I should have kept it for live perfomances.
